Lisa is a native of Atlanta and received her law degree, with honors, from Georgia State University in 1991. At GSU, Lisa was an associate editor and special staff to the managing editor of the Georgia State Law Review, and received American Jurisprudence Awards in litigation and Corporations II. She received GSU College of Law academic scholarships from 1988-1991 and was a member of Delta Theta Phi.
Although Lisa is skilled in a variety of legal areas, she has developed particular expertise in creditor rights, bankruptcy and debt re-structuring; commercial secured and unsecured lending; real estate; commercial leasing; solid waste management; and employment areas of the law. Due to the nature of the areas of law in which she focuses, Lisa's practice has both litigation (as well as litigation prevention) and transactional aspects.
For example, a substantial portion of Lisa's practice is in representation of clients in resolving problems with secured and unsecured loan or credit transactions. That resolution may require negotiating work-outs and drafting new agreements or may require enforcement of our clients' rights through litigation, collateral recovery, judgment enforcement and/or bankruptcy.
The nature of Lisa's commercial leasing practice is similar. That is, Lisa represents our clients in commercial leasing matters that include lease negotiation and drafting, as well as lease enforcement and litigation.
In connection with her areas of expertise, Lisa also offers preventive services to our clients, including secured and unsecured loan and credit documentation review, as well as commercial lease review services.
Another significant portion of Lisa's practice involves representation of solid waste management industry clients. Lisa assists those clients with legal issues involved in the development, permitting, and operation of solid waste facilities and transportation. Lisa also represents our solid waste industry clients in the resolution or litigation of solid waste management disputes, including disputes with state, county or municipal bodies.
Lisa's practice has also included representation of our clients in employment matters, with particular emphasis in the prevention and resolution of employee disputes and claims. Lisa's employment practice, as with all of her litigation practice, includes representation of our clients in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings and in alternative dispute resolution forums, including mediation and arbitration.
Lisa obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (magna cum laude) with a major in Real Estate and a minor in Finance from the University of Georgia Honors Program in 1979, having previously attended Georgia Institute of Technology during her last year of high school. While at UGA, Lisa was named to honor societies including Omicron Delta Kappa, Blue Key, Mortar Board, Rho Lambda, and Alpha Lambda Delta. She was awarded UGA Real Estate Department academic scholarships, as well as Delta Delta Delta academic scholarships. She was an active member of Delta Delta Delta, as well as Rho Epsilon Real Estate Fraternity.
Prior to attending law school in 1988, Lisa held management and other positions with corporations and financial institutions. Lisa's pre-legal experience not only provides her with a wealth of practical knowledge that she uses in her everyday legal practice, but it also allows her to see legal matters from a client's perspective; a combination that is both appreciated by and beneficial to our clients.
