Tom McLain is a native of Atlanta. After graduating from Furman University magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, Tom went on to receive his law degree cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1984. He began his practice in Atlanta in 1984, practicing with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC, from 1993 until 2008, when he joined Chorey, Taylor & Feil as a shareholder.
Tom's practice centers on general transactional corporate work, with an emphasis on contract negotiation and preparation, mergers and acquisitions, and the formation and governance of corporations and limited liability companies. A former litigator, Tom brings a deep level of understanding to the issues that face the management of a company and is an effective manager of a variety of diverse legal problems for his clients.
In connection with his active mergers and acquisitions practice, Tom regularly counsels clients regarding the potential review of such transactions by the antitrust enforcement authorities pursuant to the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 (HSR). In this capacity, he is called upon to provide advice as to whether an HSR filing is necessary and, if necessary, to assist in the preparation of Notification Forms pursuant to HSR.
Tom also has experience in representing international companies and foreign individuals in connection with their business investments and operations in the U.S. He also has represented U.S. businesses in connection with capital investments from foreign investors.

Tom is a life-long citizen of Atlanta with strong ties to the community. He has served in several capacities at his church, including as a member of its Church Council. Tom has also served as a Committee Member for Young Life Northwest Atlanta since 2004.
